While the holiday theme is joy, love, and gift-giving, the stress that can accompany the hustle, bustle and pressure of putting it all together can overcome these feelings. Stress can build up over time or show up when internal needs and feelings are ignored. Multitasking to plan holiday gatherings, shopping or communications for the end of the year can make basic needs take back burner to getting everything done well or well enough. The potential for stress build-up during this time of year can make the difference between feeling stressed and blessed.

A good check-in acronym from 12 Step Programs for stress is HALT: “Am I Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired?” If the answer is “Yes” to any of these, it’s important to take a pause to give yourself the gift of self-care.

The following list offers simple solutions from the Chinese Five Elements System

Hungry: Earth Element is about feeling at home and supported within yourself as you go through the day. When Earth Element becomes imbalanced, it is difficult to experience support in the world. Suggestions: 1) Get in touch with your own needs. 2) Ask for help when you need it. 2) Re-energize by eating root vegetables and keep organic foods in your holiday meals and snacks. 3) Wear orange or yellow to support your life energy. 4) Find a way to nurture yourself with a warm bath, a funny movie, massage, stretching, or dancing to nourish your life energy. 5) Sing your favorite songs of the season. 6) Place flowers in your environment.

Angry: Wood Element helps with organizing, planning and moving into action. When you feel blocked with this element, you are much more likely to feel frustrated and resentful, and it becomes difficult to see clearly in all situations. Suggestions: 1) Simplify lists of what you need to do. 2) Set loving and healthy boundaries on your lists and obligations. 3) Make time for your priorities on your calendar during the holidays. 4) Wear blue or green for calming energy. 5) Listen to calming music. 6) Take a walk next to the water or listen to music with water sounds in it. 7) Get clear on your options.

Lonely: Fire Element works with your connection to love, joy and groups. When this element is out of sync, you are much more likely to feel disconnected from love and cut-off from heart connections. Suggestions: 1) Ask yourself what brings you the most joy during the holidays. Take inventory o f activities, food, people, and blessings that have helped you over the years. 2) Make time to talk with someone you feel comfortable expressing your feelings and needs over the holidays if even for a few moments each time. 3) Take a walk with a two-legged or four-legged friend. As you walk, list things you see around you that are nourishing or beautiful. 4) Visit a shut-in or offer some volunteer time. 5) Make time daily to meditate to get in touch with your heart and breath.

Tired: Coherent Water Element connects you to the natural flow of life. When you feel stuck, frozen or exhausted, your life energy is depleted. This can happen when there has been a build-up of stress over time or you have overextended your life energy through overworking yourself. Suggestions: 1) Take a moment to close your eyes. Listen for what your body is telling you. Allow the energy in your body to move in whatever direction it needs to move. You can do this with or without music. Your body knows what it needs to release and to move energy. 2) Schedule downtime during the holidays to regenerate your energy. 3) Create loving and healthy boundaries for yourself by being prepared before attending parties and gatherings with how much time and energy you spend before, during and after an event. 4) Express what you are feeling lovingly and then take care of yourself.

When imbalance and depletion happens between the Five Elements it is easy to lose the connection to your spirit (core essence of yourself). The connection to Metal Element is where you see the value of what you are doing and connect to the blessings of your spirit. Suggestions: 1) Make a list of what inspires you during this season. Is it a church service? Is it a sacred meal? Is it seeing the lights? Is it a yearning for peace and spiritual values during this time? 2) What do feel you need to let go of at this time of year? Are there one or two things you could cross off your list to make it easier for you? 3) Are there any feelings of hurt, grief, or loss that need tending or need to move on to help you experience more joy, harmony and love? 4) Give yourself permission to cry, laugh and remember those you have loved over the years who have expanded your experience of love and loving. Express gratitude within and with another.

As the holidays begin with gatherings and gift-giving, we remember those in our lives who have touched our hearts, helped us learn greater lessons, and those who might be at a distance, or perhaps are not with us this year.

Article by Kimberly Rex, MS Copyright Material ©

Deep within the heart of each of us is a yearning for presence and connection. It is true that our friends, family members and ancestors have all had an important part in our lives through lessons, life-giving energy and contribution to who we are today.

For children, family members and friends, the need for connection, acknowledgement, the sharing of talents, good food, stories and conversation help to create fulfillment of this need. Offering your time, expression of your appreciation for what has mattered most, and listening deeply to another has great value for your health, relationships, and sense of well-being.

Treasures of personal talents and skills, honoring our family gems, nurturing friendships, being there through listening, spending time playing together, and gratitude are gifts of presence that keep on giving throughout our lives.

Here are fifteen low or no-cost suggestions for presence this holiday season and beyond:

1) Tell stories of your memories as a child to your children and grandchildren. Record them.

2) Include your ancestors in your storytelling by remembering a positive memory and sharing it with the little ones who might never have met them, or do not remember them. Acknowledge the gifts they offered you through a talent or higher lesson.

3) Call friends with whom you haven’t spoken for a while. Catch up with them. Listen, and acknowledge how your friendship, no matter how seemingly distant, fills your heart.

4) Set up a call with family members who are miles away with a free conference call service like Freeconferencecall.com.* Spend time on the call with a focus on a happy memory or appreciation of the year, a gratitude for each person (name the specific actions and meaning), and share a concern or need which another person in the family might be able to assist. * These services are free except for your phone carrier charges.

5) Offer a talent or skill that you have to another person: computer help, yardwork, carpentry, pet care, gardening, cooking, sewing, lessons (music, woodwork, artwork, knitting).

6) Write a Gratitude Letter to each person in your home. Read them outloud to each person.*

7) Send a Gratitude Letter to someone far away, or to someone you feel needs to know how much they mean to you. Let them know how their thoughtfulness through time has touched your heart.

8) Give your pet a brushing and spend time walking or playing with them.

9) Spend time playing with your children on the floor, do artwork, turn on music and dance, or schedule a special time every week with them to just listen or play a game together.

10) Tell your partner and children 3 things that you appreciate about them before they go to sleep each night.

11) Mail seeds for a garden to a friend. Share gardens and their harvest with gifts of jams, preserves, sauces, etc.

12) Make your children’s favorite holiday foods. Teach them how to make these dishes. Write down the recipes. Give a recipe as a gift!

13) Read a story that you loved as a child to your children or grandchildren. Read and share books with your loved ones of all ages!

14) Listen to your children read, play an instrument, or sing a song. Listen to music together and sing together. Share songs you learned as a child. Encourage creativity!

15) Check in on elders to see how they are doing, especially during the cold months. Check to see if they have power, heat, or if they need anything. Spend time listening, sharing and perhaps bringing nature to shut-ins with indoor gardens and birdfeeders to watch outdoors.

I’m not talking about heavy metal music, although frequency-wise that’s an interesting topic on its own. I’m writing about health news regarding the brain that has been published lately, and I’d like to share some of it. As an energetic health practitioner who works with the Chinese Five Element and Meridian System, Metal Element is particular to this time of year. Metal deals with intellect, precision, values and inspiration. Obviously, input=output. Mental function is directly related to what you ingest, digest and filter through all of your senses. The following article details some factors to consider to improve the overall positive functioning of your brain.

Take Inventory of Your Environmental Toxins: You are exposed to a number of chemicals and irritants everyday. This has a direct impact on the demand placed on your body-mind system to process toxins. Decrease your exposure. Less stress on your body-mind system=more optimal life energy flow.

Cadmium: automobile products (black rubber, seat covers, burned motor oil), evaporated milk, processed foods, sprays on fruits and vegetables and soft drinks

Aluminum: deodorants, pots and pans, shampoos, storage wraps for foods, and antacids

Lead: canned foods, leaded candle sticks, lead or soldered water pipes, lead paint, colored or glossy newsprint, soil, vehicle emissions, cigarette smoke, municipal water supplies (soft water and lead pipes), and some calcium supplements

Mercury: dental fillings, fish, the preservative thimerasol in vaccines, coal fired power plants and trash incinerators.

Pesticides: agriculture, lawns, golf courses, and veterinary practice

Personal and Household Products: According to The Brain Wash by Michelle Schoffro Cook, there are significant issues with products we use in our homes for the purpose of beauty and hygiene. A number of ingredients in shampoos, toothpaste, deodorant and perfume report significant negative effects on our central nervous system and cognitive function. Chemicals in mattresses, cleaners, carpets and dryer sheets contain numerous neurotoxins.

What Actions Can You Take to Support Your Brain’s Functioning?

Nutrition: In a study done by Dr. Steven Pratt, six foods are suggested to help preserve your health and fight the aging of the brain: pomegranate, blueberries, walnuts, spinach, almonds, and oranges. Researchers at Oxford University in England have found that B12 plays an important role on mental function. Foods such as eggs, yogurt, tuna, salmon, rainbow trout, clams, swiss cheese, milk, chicken and beef contain B12. For vegetarians, wheat germ or cereals fortified with B12 is a good alternative if you are not getting it from a supplement. Drink green tea to protect your brain. Eat organic dark chocolate. Get the anti-inflammatory benefits of ginger, celery and cherries. Cook with sage, tumeric, fennel, marjoram, thyme and cilantro.

To support detox:* Eat whole foods. Decrease intake of processed foods. Include olives, olive oil, onions, purple and red grapes, garlic and organic dark leafy greens in your diet. Limit sugar and alcohol consumption to improve the functioning of your immune filtering system. Filter your drinking water. Include a probiotic such as acidophilus bifidus as part of your care for your digestion and balance of friendly bacteria. *Vitamin E, C, magnesium, Selenium,Coenzyme Q10, and Ginko Biloba have been identified as antioxidant support for the brain. Work with a certified nutritional health practitioner to help you, if needed.

Go Outside: Physical activity that includes cardiovascular fitness also improves your cognitive functioning in the areas of processing speed, attention and motor skills. Find a way to keep variations of cycling, swimming and walking in your routine. Stepping away from the electromagnetic field radiation from electronic devices also helps to re-energize and bring more clarity to your thinking. Take a walk on the beach or next to saltwater to get negative ions to strengthen autonomic nerve and cellular function. If you cannot get to saltwater, burn a rock salt lamp in your home with a non-petroleum candle. Using houseplants such as spider plants near your computer also create more oxygen-rich air to breathe for oxygen delivery to the brain. The brain and the nervous system need the most oxygen in your body for optimal functioning.

Expand and Share your Life Purpose Gifts: Stay connected to what interests and inspires you. Learn something new! Take in beauty. Take in color through foods, art, and creativity. Join a group to keep you inspired and connected to others. Volunteer. Nurture joy and love by offering it to yourself and others. On the Chinese Medicine Wheel this is Fire Element warming Metal Element to creating harmony and balance for wisdom and a rich inner life.

The dark months can create challenges for getting enough sun and Vitamin D. Some issues associated with limited sunlight and Vitamin D deficiencies are associated with rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid issues, Seasonal Affective Disorder, depression, fatigue and other disorders. That’s why full spectrum light and energizing your body for greater absorption of light is essential. Whether it’s winter or just feeling dark, this article will give you some natural modalities to absorb more light!

Light is one of the major nutrients for the body-mind. It is a food for creating energy. When you increase the amount of light you absorb through your eyes, the body-mind moves into a higher state of coherence. Even visualizing a color feeds your body-mind system including your emotional and mental attitude.

Here are a 12 fun, natural and easy ways to increase your energy and sense of well-being during the dark months.

1. Use colors to brighten up. The use of pink, yellow, and reds stimulate the adrenal glands and produces dopamine. Wear these colors to give yourself a lift.

2. Brighten your space with flowers and scents. Gazing at flowers has been proven to enhance happiness. It is a wonderful way to bring the light processed through nature inside.

3. Use natural scents to pamper your five senses. Natural aromas that remind of sweet foods set off endorphins that impact our sense of feeling good. Medical experiments have shown that vanilla fragrance reduces stress and anxiety and has an impact on the emotional brain. Rose and licorice scents help when you feel overwhelmed. Lemon is invigorating and refreshing. Lavender helps with insomnia and helps you relax. Incorporate cinnamon or vanilla in your cooking. The sweetness we associate with these smells bring in Earth Element (summer), and are mood-altering in all their associations with sweetness.

4. Eat foods that support good moods.

Include eating and drinking citris in the morning. The Vitamin C lowers the stress hormone, cortisol. Add lemon to your cup of green tea to increase the effects of the antioxidents. Mix red peppers into your salads.

Eat violet foods. They contain Vitamin D. On the list are all kinds of berries including blueberries, elderberries, and blackberries. Eat eggplant and grapes. Eat whole foods around the color wheel for the full spectrum. * Color Code by James Joseph, et al details how to eat a full-spectrum diet.

Munch on some crunchy foods. This could be the reason why all the people I know LOVE to go to the movies on rainy days! You see the crunchiness of the chewing popcorn stimulates a nerve that signals the brain to release some mood-enhancing chemicals. The mouth has more nerve ending localized in one area of the body. Eat a whole apple or snack on sunflower seeds to energize your day.

5. Create an indoor garden of herbs for cooking. Not only will smell and touch of these plants connect you to energizing fragrances, but will also create mood-enhancing serotonin* from touching the soil.

6. Visualize yourself in a warm and sunny place. Imagining something is an internal process which connects you directly to the experience. Play some music that enhances the experience whether it is Caribbean, Hawaiian, or sounds of waves or nature. Visualization will create moving into relaxation on all levels.

7. Keep moving. Life is energy is motion. Find a way to experience the freedom you do have during the summer months for movement in some way. Take a salsa class, go to an indoor pool, walk around the shopping mall with a friend. Meet a friend for a walk, good conversation and cup of tea. Setting up time for movement in the morning triggers an increase in metabolism that lasts into the day. Walking and stretching improves your mood by releasing endorphins, your body’s natural opiates.

8. Listen to music that uplifts. You know the songs that make you want to move and get you singing along. Play Baroque music to support focus, learning and vitality. The interval of a fifth in Baroque harmonizes and energizes! The Brainwave Symphony is a wonderful option.*

9. Spend time with people and pet having fun! Petting your pet can create soothing endorphin response. Make time to be with dear friends! Smiling supports your inmmune system. Work with the Inner Smile Meditation from the book, Free Your Breath, Free Your Live by Dennis Lewis. Think of reasons to smile. Use these memories when you need a pick me up of energy. A few moments go a long way to brighten your day!

10. Get a full night of sleep. Just an extra hour of sleep per night helps protect your heart, and regulates your body’s need for homeostasis and stress relief.

11. Get out into natural or full-spectrum light 5-15 minutes a day. There are a number of products online that make it possible to bring full-spectrum light indoors. Take off your glasses when possible in natural light to drink in those rays!

12. It’s in your hands. Your hands are sub-chakras of the heart. Palming is an exercise that relieves stress in your eyes. Less stress= more light absorbed. It is also deeply relaxing mentally and emotionally. It is best to face natural light for this activity.

Here’s how:

Rest you right hand over your right eye. Allow your fingers to rest over the fingers of your right hand diagonally across your forehead. Cup your left palm over your left eye. Allow your fingers to rest over your forehead diagonally over your other hand. No light should enter. Close your eyes. Relax deeply into the darkness.

Say out loud or to yourself, “Love,” “Gratitude,” “Faith,” “Thank you,” “Trust” or other positive words.

Open your eyes in the darkness. You can also take your palms away slightly. Open your eyes in the space and take in color, and then replace your palms to relax.

When you are ready, slowly take your palms away. Slowly open your eyes to take in the light and beauty of the world around you.

*Serotonin and Dopamine are neurotransmitters associated with supporting positive mood.

FREE 350 Global Climate Initiative Repatterning:

On October 24, 2009, I’m offering a repatterning to support the 350 Climate Initiative with a repatterning that works with personal and global issues and intentions. The session takes place at 4 PM Pacific/7PM Eastern. Telephone dial-in: (712) 421-6521 PIN: 7390162# You can listen LIVE, just add statements or get recording and notes. Here’s the questionnaire link where you can list your intentions and issues: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=rHKMS7jHshyjA1HOQ0HAsw_3d_3d

From 350.org website: 350.org is an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis–the solutions that science and justice demand. The focus is on the number 350–as in parts per million, the level scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. But 350 is more than a number–it’s a symbol of where we need to head as a planet.

To tackle climate change we need to move quickly, and we need to act in unison—and 2009 will be an absolutely crucial year. This December, world leaders will meet in Copenhagen, Denmark to craft a new global treaty on cutting emissions. The problem is, the treaty currently on the table doesn’t meet the severity of the climate crisis—it doesn’t pass the 350 test.

In order to unite the public, media, and our political leaders behind the 350 goal, we’re harnessing the power of the internet to coordinate a planetary day of action on October 24, 2009. We hope to have actions at hundreds of iconic places around the world – from the Taj Mahal to the Great Barrier Reef to your community – and clear message to world leaders: the solutions to climate change must be equitable, they must be grounded in science, and they must meet the scale of the crisis.

If an international grassroots movement holds our leaders accountable to the latest climate science, we can start the global transformation we so desperately need. Please pass this along to your friends!

As an energetic healthcare practitioner, I’ve followed films like What the Bleep Do We Know and The Secret. They have crafted a new way of speaking about the quantum field of energy taking us down the rabbit hole of exploration and discovery.

The Living Matrix takes the next evolutionary step to understanding energy as pivotal to health. With important contributions from Bruce Lipton, Rupert Sheldrake, Lynne McTaggart, Edgar Mitchell, Herman Koning, MD, James Oschman,Ph.D, Heartmath Institute, Marilyn Schlitz of the Institute of Noetic Sciences and Franz Popp to name a few, this film delivers rich food for thought from seasoned researchers. It also chronicles case studies of people who have experienced extraordinary healing working with the living matrix.

In statements pivotal to our way of thinking about life and healing, the following summary of content is offered for “traveling even more deeply into the rabbit hole!”

Consider the following:

Your body is connected to an energetic field of information that surrounds and includes you.

Your body field is filled with energetic information. DNA ( biological information library) informs fields that become tissue, organs, muscles, cells, etc.

Genes are unlimited potential. Influence of environment, emotion and stress can create 30,000 different variations from the blueprint.

The heart imprints information from the energetic field and has neural tissue. Emotions have direct impact on what is relayed. The heart is the body’s control system and delivers information to the cells.

Life is patterns of information. Illness is a disturbance in the information energy system.

Disease is scrambled, blocked or disrupted information. When the disturbance is stopped, chemistry and physiology self correct.

1/3 of all healing happens due to the placebo effect. Belief in process and positive thought have an impact by enhancing the healing process.

The future of energy medicine empowers facilitating the natural healing capacity of the body as a whole. This process is inclusive of thoughts, beliefs, and nurture.

Information follows intention with focus and alignment of frequency.

In a time when healthcare issues are increasingly controversial, this film helps to empower the part you play in taking care of your own body. It offers meaningful insights to what wholeness or health means from the energetic viewpoint.

Joseph Campbell

Your life, insights, and relationships are energy in motion. Everything down to the cellular level pulses or vibrates. The quality of these vibrations create form and function. Even DNA in its spiraling, geometric pattern of proportions controls your “form”.
There is order in life to not only give form but to transform energy. This order maintains life whether it be the life of a plant, your body, relationship or business. Source energy of sound and light provides the driving and sustaining power for all existence. The light that creates, enhances and maintains life is specific.

…the light not only from our sun but also from billions upon billions of similar stars is at exactly the right frequency for life as we know it to exist. If it was of a higher frequency- as in x rays and gamma rays-living systems would be blown apart. If it was of a lower frequency, as in radio waves, its energy would be insufficient to be absorbed and utilized. John Davidson Subtle Energy (http://www.windowstotheheart.net/links.php under Great Books Link)

This insight can also be applied to personal and business relationships. If the frequency is too high it can show up in lack of order, organization, or grounding. This creates conflict, anxiety, stress, frustration, distrust, or anger. When there is insufficient energy for the relationship or business, this shows up as lack of motivation, feelings of powerlessness, exhaustion, fear or withdrawal.

Feeding the energy circuit not only includes form and function, but wave and particle. This creates the magnetic field of attraction. You are all things, current flow, magnetic field, positive, negative, Yin, Yang, sound and light. Every issue you have has a particular frequency including your arguments, back ache or business difficulties. Joy, feelings of empowerment and grounding also have specific frequencies. Your energy holds huge potential. The good news is that this potential creates new possibilities starting from inside of you!

To effect positive change, start by working with the filter through which you experience life mentally and emotionally. Clearing the filter where information has been disrupted or stopped helps to enliven and harmonize your Chi energy. This can be done through cleansing your body-mind system of toxic thoughts, substances and feelings, nourishing your body with movement, breath, light, color and relaxation, whole foods and spiritual practice. Couple this with life-enhancing actions based on love to keep you connected to the primal energy of your core essence.

When you take the time to heal inner issues and pain, you connect more deeply to your inner brilliance. This impacts both the form and function of your life. Healing through the process of loving every aspect of yourself: positive, negative, light, dark, anger, fear, misconceptions and non-truths, you enhance your life energy. As you acknowledge and integrate the higher purpose and lessons from the places in your life that have brought you where you are, it becomes much more possible to love, value and appreciate the positive inside of you. This, in turn, creates more life energy to strengthen, magnetize and manifest your positive intentions into reality.

You know that feeling of when you are first falling in love, those feelings of being so alive, of bliss and pleasure? We all have a memory or two of these experiences. You can thank your endorphins for bonding you to those memories because they have an important role to play in how that experience was stored and recalled.

Endorphins also get stimulated in traumatic and painful experiences because they play an equally important role in creating relief from pain, stress, anxiety and depression. As your body’s natural pain killer, they are a hundred times more powerful than morphine!

Where there’s repeated stress or violence experiences, endorphin production can become a way to re-experience a pain-relief “high.” For example, children who have seen or experienced violence over time, may become addicted to reactivating violence and pain as a way to get their needs met for pain relief with endorphin’s powerful effect as a pain killer!

This can manifest as a repetitive cycle in later stages of life showing up in chaotic, overdependent, or abusive relationships, addiction, gambling, violence, overspending and even eating disorders. The power of these biochemicals impact how you perceive your environment, navigate through change and this in turn, affects which endorphins get activated. It’s important to take a look at the ways memories are being activated through self-talk, coping mechanisms, and relationship. Is it bliss or the blast from the past of painful or traumatic experience? Being on the gerbil wheel of overwork, activity, chaotic relationships, or need for exposure to danger or challenge can be a telling indication that you are bonded to stress endorphin experiences. Depression, low self esteem or the feeling of pessimism can also be an indication of being excessively bonded to pain relief endorphins. The quality of life energy available to meet challenges, handle change and to be able to face and see what is necessary to take action in the present is dependent on how much you are able to access positive endorphin response.

Activate the bliss experience endorphins and you positively impact the function of your body’s nervous and immune systems in a way that promotes a sense of well-being. Continually activate the stress endorphins and you begin to deplete your body’s nervous and immune systems resulting in a loss of life energy or illness. Unresolved earlier conflict can be resolved through conscious awareness and positive action. The good news is that there are many natural and easy ways to empower positive endorphin response besides love at first sight!

This past month of change has had some powerful emotional content. We’ve gone through waves of processing icons leaving the planet, global shifts in political alliances and power. If it’s felt difficult to catch your breath, you are not alone! These events have maximized and mobilized response on many levels including personal feelings of grief, disbelief, anger, confusion, frustration, shock, and/or fear. It has felt as if time has tumbled over itself in an attempt to get us to process personal feelings, thoughts and beliefs. At times like these remembering to breathe is important!

Breathing patterns give clues to emotions and feelings. You can measure a shift in breathing when you are excited, as well as when you are worried. Trauma, shock, disease or pain interrupts the natural flow of your breath and vitality. When we get stuck in a breathing pattern even when the reason for an earlier experience is no longer present, it’s a clue that feelings have not been released. Processing feelings with the support of breath helps to move through these experiences to resolution.

The quality of your breathing patterns affects the flow of oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange essential to life-activity in the body down to the cellular level, impacts the emotional brain, synchronizes brain waves, and controls your mental state. When you are frightened, you gasp or hold your breath. When you are stressed or worried, you sigh, have a shallow or collapsed breathing pattern after the exhale, or a blocked inhale. Exhaling to release or inhaling to start a new breath cycle pattern is the goal.

Following are two breathing exercises to support the release of feelings and the creation of new images for greater relaxation and harmony. You can practice them together or use each one on its own.

1. Feeling Breath

Get in touch with your breathing pattern. *Inhale through your nose. Each time you inhale, breathe in pure energy allowing your stomach to expand like a balloon, including your ribs front to back and side to side. Fill your lungs. As you exhale through your nose, relax your lungs and ribs from the top and middle. Pull in your abdominal muscles, exhaling all the air from the bottom of your lungs. Do this a few times.

Become aware of what you are feeling. Continuing to breathe deeply and easily as you accept these feelings as messengers for processing material for insight, illumination and resolution.

When you are aware of what you are feeling, say what you are feeling out loud as you continue to breathe deeply and easily.

When you have acknowledged your feelings out loud, continue to relax while releasing the named feeling when you exhale. You can say, “I release my feeling of__________” as you breathe out.

You can breathe out emotional and physical toxins with this process also. Continue breathing with a focus on inhaling pure energy and exhaling emotions until you feel complete.

This nurturing relationship with the ocean of air you are breathing creates chi or prana to feed every cell of your body. When your breathing patterns are in balance and harmony, the benefits range from decreasing adrenaline flow when in a stressful situation, improving the quality of your vitality, better sleep, lowering your blood pressure, and greater heart health. Giving attention to your breath gets you in touch with your center or spiritual core, allows you to let go of emotional and physical toxins, improves your sense of connection to your feelings, relaxation and heart wisdom.

2. Limbic Brain Breath: Because breathing accesses the emotional brain, doing this modality will give you energetic support for creating new images and feelings. While breathing deeply, see positive image(s) and feel positive feeling(s). Use this visualization to support you in a stressful situation, when you need grounding or need an energetic pick-me-up!

There are many powerful breathing patterns that can heal your life. Here are two great books to explore: Free Your Breath, Free Your Life by Dennis Lewis and Breathing Free: the 5-day breathing program that will change your life by Teresa Hale. You can link to them here: http://www.windowstotheheart.net/links.php

Don Miguel Ruiz, in his book,The Four Agreements, starts with “Be impeccable with your word.” He says that not only do your words have the power to create something outside, but also inside. Our words can build or tear apart. According to Carolyn Myss,“Dis-empowering language keeps us sick and weak.” Negative self-talk messages such as “I can’t do it,” “ It won’t work,” or “ I’m not good enough,” often speak to material from long ago, and do not allow the “true self” to shine.

Here are three steps to empower your self-talk:

1. Working with the energy center for hearing and speech, the Ether Chakra (throat) allows for feeling and serves as the bridge between the Air (heart and lungs) and Brow Chakra (pineal gland) creating the opportunity for expression from both the heart and mind. To access these three centers, notice with loving awareness how your communication feels. Become aware of your breath and focus in your heart before speaking. This then expands the electromagnetic fields of the heart and brain for more clarity, problem-solving, connection to love, courage, compassion and intuition. This results in creating greater opportunity for the harvest of response over reaction in your expression.
2. Clarity, truth and respectful wording create greater empowerment. To experiment with this idea, read paired sentences with small changes, noting how you feel as you read both.

Indecision to Clarity
“Maybe, I’ll call you to tomorrow.” /“I’ll call you tomorrow.”
“Yeah, I think that song is great.” / “ Yes, that song is great.”
“Nah, I don’t think it’s a wise decision.” / “No, it’s not a wise decision”
Extreme to Moderate
“I never eat after 5 PM.” / “ I seldom eat after 5 PM.”
“I always meditate for an hour.” / “I often meditate for an hour,” or “I sometimes meditate for an hour.”
Should to Choice“ I should call my mother on Sunday.”/ “I choose to call my mother on Sunday,” or “I want to call my mother on Sunday.”
Try to Aim
“I will try to do my best on my homework.” / “ I aim to do my best on my homework” or “I intend to do my best on my homework.”
Diminishment to Value
“ I’m just a student.” / “ I am a student.”
“ I can’t exercise for 30 minutes.” / “I choose not to exercise for thirty minutes.”
or “I am not willing to exercise for thirty minutes.”
Demand to Desire
“I have to lose 5 lbs. by August 30th.” /“I desire to lose 5 lbs. by August 30th.”or “ I choose to lose 5 lbs. by August 30th.”
“I need to finish this work by tomorrow.” / “It’s important to me to finish this work by tomorrow.”

3. Extend this practice by keeping track of repeated messages you give yourself and then working with a change from the list above. Using a journal write down a statement you hear yourself saying which feels uncomfortable. Use the same practice of tuning into your heart and breath as you reflect on its meaning. Listen to your words to inform and empower your life for illumination. Who, what and where on the time-space continuum is speaking? I’ve worked with clients who have expressed beliefs, attitudes and hardships of their ancestor’s traumas and limitations. Sometimes messages are parental messages from pre-natal experience or very early on. Through the course of a session, when the client consciously becomes aware and transforms the old messages, a great burden is lifted! Create a new message by taking it more deeply into a Resonance Repatterning session for internal shifts. By taking this active part, you create respectful, loving and supportive action from within for life affirming communication.
